Battambang Full Day Private Tour

After pickup from your accommodation we begin our day with a sightseeing tour of Battambang. The city's gorgeous French colonial buildings, and the Art Deco Psar Nat Market built in the 1930's, are nestled on the left bank of the Sangkae river. Continuing on from there we go to Odam Bang village, where we take a bamboo train through the rice paddies. Battambang rice is generally considered to be the finest quality in the country.

After enjoying a picnic lunch we are off to the pretty village of Wat Kor and the hilltop temples of Phnom Sampeau and Phnom Banan. The 11th century Phnom Banan is notable for its early Angkorian architecture and some extant carvings in lintels and pediments. The more recent history of Phnom Sampeau is quite a bit darker. Enemies of the Khmer Rouge were brought here to be killed, then their bodies were thrown into some of the natural rock skylights in the top of the mountain. There is a memorial to that time here containing skulls and bones of the victims.

Then we follow the Sangkae river to discover the region's tropical fruit orchards and vegetables planted along the fertile banks on the way back to your hotel.
