Boat Trip to Indigenous Tampuan, Kachok and Jarai Villages

Departing Banlung in the morning we will head to Andoung Meas district, stopping along the way to visit local mining communities and examine the beautiful gem stones that they find. We will observe Tampuan, Jarai and Kachok villagers as they go about their daily life, with their traditions and rituals.

Then we will board a boat on the SeSan river and take a trip that includes visits to gold mining communities (in dry season) and ends with visits to the fascinating Jarai and Kachok cemetaries which house ancient graves and wooden carvings representing the dead. These groups are Animists, not like the majority of Cambodia which is Buddhist. They believe that Spirits inhabit all things and must be treated with respect.

As well as panning for Gold, and digging for Gems, these groups are known for their traditional Weaving and Basketry. Both their Baskets and their Weaving are still in day to day use, they will wrap themselves in a Krama and sling a basket on their back before going to the forest to pick vegetables or firewood.
