Mekong, Boat and Kayak, Waterfalls, Cascades, and The Flooded Forest, Full Day Private Tour
With pickup from your hotel in Stung Treng we drive to Vouen Kam where a boat will take us upstream to Sopheakmet Waterfall at the Laos border. In the dry season the boat will be able to go directly to the falls. In rain season the boat usually needs to stop about 3km away, then we walk. Definitely worth it though.
After the falls we go to Rock Zero, standing in the middle of the Mekong, between Laos and Cambodia this marks one of the deepest pools on the Upper Mekong. The French used this as a portage site to route around the falls.
Homecooked Khmer food is on the menu for lunch when we stop on the banks to eat with a local family.
After lunch it is back on the boat to O’Svay where we Kayak through the Flooded Forest, this is a listed Ramsar Wetlands area that supports a large variety of birds. This remote spot will leave you feeling completely at one with nature. Once you began kayaking the scenery is dramatic, The massive trees providing a cathedral for your passage.
Only accessible by boat, it is a haven for critically endangered mammals, birds, and fish, it is a unique ecosystem that is a photographer’s dream. After gently paddling for awhile we travel by boat back to O’Svay and then drop you back at your hotel.
