Angkor Borey
Generally considered to be the foundation of Khmer Civilization, Angkor Borei was the capital of Funan and the later Chenla Kingdom. It was also an important area during the Angkorian period. Ruins here date all the way back to 400 BCE. The earliest known inscriptions in the Khmer language have been found, along with possibly the first instances of sculpture in the Khmer style. The oldest Temple still standing is from the 6th century, though the discovery of post holes points to an earlier Hindu Temple constructed of wood.
