Beach Camping, Kayaking, Bicycling, Upper Mekong, 3 Day Private Tour

Day 1:

With pickup from your hotel in Stung Treng we drive to Vouen Kam where a boat will take us upstream to Sopheakmet Waterfall at the Laos border. In the dry season the boat will be able to go directly to the falls. In rain season the boat usually needs to stop about 3km away, then we walk. Definitely worth it though.

After the falls we go to Rock Zero, standing in the middle of the Mekong, between Laos and Cambodia this marks one of the deepest pools on the Upper Mekong. The French used this as a portage site to route around the falls.

Then we head to a small island where we will set up camp on a sandy beach and enjoy sunset before dinner around a campfire.

Day 2:
Waking up on the island your guide will make you breakfast, while you can go for a quick swim, or get in a little fishing if you want too. Our campsite is located just off from a deepwater pool where various large freshwater species of fish lurk. After breakfast, we enjoy a short boat trip down to O’Svay where we will start our Kayak trip to explore the Flooded Forest. Only accessible by boat, it is a haven for critically endangered mammals, birds, and fish, it is a unique ecosystem that is a photographer’s dream. The small islands appear everywhere around. In the Flooded Forest we will visit the community of Veun Sien, and see what life is like in this distinctive environment. Your visit will certainly leave an impact. Explore the village by foot for a while to relax.

After lunch on a sandy beach we continue kayaking to Koh Ky, where we take a boat to Stung Treng. Arriving in Stung Treng we will check you into the hotel and then you have free time until the morning. Maybe a walk to the market then watch the sunset from the riverside?

Day 3:
Leaving Stung Treng by mountain bike, we follow the river passing through quiet villages and seeing everyday life along the Mekong. After 35 km of cycling, we pickup kayaks for a paddle in an area of numerous sandy islands. After a good paddle we stop at a deep pool where we will have a picnic lunch and a swim. After lunch you will be returned to Stung Treng.
