Phnom Penh and the Jungles of Koh Kong Six Day Private Tour
On your first day in the Kingdom your guide will meet you at the airport, then transfer you to your hotel and get you checked in. This will be your time to relax, and explore the area on your own if you wish. The rest of the day is free time.
Your second day is a tour of the Capital, taking in Wat phnom, The Royal Palace and Silver Pagoda, and the National Museum. This morning will be packed with new experiences. Wat Phnom is where Phnom Penh takes its name, The Royal Palace is of course the Kings Residence, and the National Museum is the largest repository for Cambodian artifacts from pre-Angkor times to the present. On the way you will traverse the city, pass along the banks of the Mekong, and view the famous Independence Monument.
After a full morning it is time for lunch at a local restaurant.
In the afternoon you will see a darker part of Cambodian history as we tour the Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum and the Killing Fields. This secondary school turned detention center and prison was the scene of some of the greatest atrocities during the Khmer Rouge times. The Killing Fields of Coeung Ek are now a memorial to the victims interred there.
Rounding out the day is a visit to the Russian Market, a great place to pick up anything from vegetables for the soup pot to Khmer handicrafts for a souvenir. Then your guide will return you to your hotel.
Day three you will be driven to Koh Kong Province, where you will board a boat at Tatai for your incredible stay at the Canvas & Orchids Retreat. This luxury spot nestled deep in the Cardamom mountains is accessible only by boat. Swim, Kayak, relax and take in the beauty of Cambodia.
Your fourth day starts with a delicious breakfast, then a trip by boat to the stunning Tatai Waterfall where we will stop for lunch. The Kayaks we bring along are a perfect way to explore the small tributaries above and below the falls. You are in the jungle here, but there are some smallholdings in places on the banks where you can see modest fruit orchards. After a day spent on and in the water you will return to Canvas & Orchids for the night.
Day five is another great breakfast then travel downriver through the Mangroves to visit some of the fishing villages. The trip itself is wonderful, moving along with the current, a cool drink in hand, and the incredible scenery drifting by. Arriving at the village you will see men maintaining the boats, women patching the nets, and everywhere children darting among the houses. Lunch will be the catch of the day, usually served in a very simple but delicious way. After lunch you can walk up the small hill nearby to get a top down view of what you have been immersed in. Then, in the afternoon, you head back upriver to the Retreat where you have enough time before dinner to get in a swim, Kayak a bit, or just wash up and relax.
On your final day, after breakfast, once again you will be transferred by boat to Tatai where your driver will meet you for the trip back to Phnom Penh. After getting you checked into your hotel your driver will bid you goodbye and you are free to do as you wish.
