Kratie

Mekong Dolphins

There is a population of Endangered Irrawaddy Dolphins that make their home just outside Kratie near some small rapids. This gentle, playful animal is making a comeback locally thanks to education and conservation efforts. Previously they were hunted both for food, and because of the belief that they reduced fish stocks. Most active in in the early morning and late afternoon, they can be seen leaping in graceful arcs as they fish and play.
