Preah Vihear Temple
Situated near the border with Thailand, perched 525 metres up a cliff lies the spectacular, and little visited, Temple of Preah Vihear. Dedicated to the Hindu God Shiva, construction started in the ninth century, and continued for hundreds of years. As Hinduism declined the site became a Buddhist shrine. With its extensive carvings, differing architectural styles, and incredible views over the plains this complex falls outside the scope of conventional Khmer Temples.
