4 Full Days in and around Siem Reap, Angkor Wat

On your first day, after pickup from your accommodation, it's off to Angkor Thom once the Capital of the Khmer Empire. Here you will marvel at the incredible carvings around the city, from the Four Faces of Bayon, to the Nagas along the bridges. With a break for a delicious Khmer lunch following. After that, a tour of the main complex at Angkor Wat and then watch the sunset from the Temple Mountain of Phnom Bakheng. Finally your guide will return you to your hotel or guesthouse.

Day two starts early with your guide picking you up at 04:30 so you can watch the Sunrise over Angkor Wat. Then to the majestic Ta Prohm, known as the Tomb Raider Temple. Here the jungle has been clawing its way back since the Temple was abandoned in the 15th century. You're ready for another great lunch at this point. Then off to the Temples of Pre Rup, East Mebon, Preah Khan, and finishing at the red and pink sandstone Temple of Banteay Srei. As always, your helpful guide will return you to your accommodation afterwards.

Day three starts with learning about how Rice Noodles and Palm Cakes are traditionally made. You can sample their delicious output. Then it's off to Kulen mountain to see the Holy River of 1000 Lingams, also know as Kbal Spean. Carved into the pathways and the riverbed itself are representations of Lingams and many Hindu Deities. Enjoy the cool air along the river and swim in the pool of a beautiful waterfal if you wish. Here you will also find the largest Reclining Buddha in Cambodia, carved out of the living rock. More local and delicious dishes await you for lunch, then a boat trip to see the Floating Village on the Tonle Sap Lake. You will have seen and done much when your guide once again returns you to your accommodation.

Day four and you are off to the remote Koh Ker, once the capital of the Khmer Empire. Covering 81 square kilometers this collection of temples, monuments, canals and water tanks is quite extensive. Due to its location little was changed when the state religion shifted from Hinduism to Buddhism. Much of the area is still not fully documented, and the more remote temples are not yet fully demined. Another delicious lunch is followed by a visit to Beng Mealea, this 12th century complex is largely unrestored. With its tumbledown walls covered with vines and creepers this is a beautiful, rustic setting. After exploring here your guide will return you to your accommodations for the last time and bid you adieu.
