Angkor Region: 3 day Personal Temples and More Tour
With three full days you will have a lot to see.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel and bring you to the jungle temple of Beng Mealea. This sprawling complex is overgrown with vegetation. Originally a Hindu temple it nonetheless contains some Buddhist motifs. Very little of it has been restored, so it exists as a bit of a time capsule. After your time there you're off to a local restaurant for a delicious Khmer lunch. Then for a boat trip through the Floating Village of Kampong Phluk on the great Tonle Sap Lake.
Day two has your guide picking you up again to head for Angkor Thom, the extensive ruins here were once the capital of the Khmer Empire starting in the twelfth century. From there it's off to Ta Prohm, the temple made famous for its appearance in the film Tomb Raider. Another delicious lunch, then to the ruins of the 10th century monastery of Banteay Kdei. The complex was in use until the 1960's.
Day three is an early start so we can watch the sunrise at Angkor wat. This really is not to be missed, the surrounding area is comparatively flat so what begins as as glow quickly lights the whole scene. After exploring the main site, we will have yet another great lunch. Then either take in a few more temples, like Banteay Srei, or visit a village to watch Palm Sugar production, or see the Landmine Museum. It's up to you.
