Bokor National Park
A short distance from Kampot lies Bokor Mountain, originally developed during the French Protectorate as a Hill Station to get away from the summer heat. At an average of a little over 1000 metres the temperatures are much cooler than sea level just a few kilometres away. There are many buildings from the time of the French still standing, though in a somewhat ruined state, including a casino, Catholic Church, and the Black Palace. In more modern times a luxury hotel and a large statue to the mythical Yeay Mao have been constructed. Especially during dry season the mountain has spectacular views over the Gulf of Thailand, and Kep Bay.
