Ta Prohm Temple

Built in a similar style to Bayon during the late twelfth century, this was originally a Mahayana Buddhist monastery and university. It is a very popular attraction for visitors to Angkor because it has been left much the same as it was discovered with giant roots snaking through doorways and trees overhanging grey stone. It was famously seen in the Angelina Jolie film Tomb Raider.

During its heyday, more than 12,500 people lived and worked there, and the area is estimated to have been supported by another 800,000.
