In the center of Phnom Penh is Wat Phnom, this Buddhist Temple sits on a hill and for a long time was the highest spot in the city. Its numerous Stupas, Buddhas, and Monuments are an important part of Cambodian life, especially during holidays. People come to pray for good luck and success.

There are a few legends about the founding of the Wat, one states that it was built by a King in the 15th century, another that a widow found a tree floating in the river with four statues of Buddha inside, and built a shrine to honor them.
